Found an interesting, high-level article connecting algebraic geometry to physics. Maybe topical to numberfields@home?

Aurel,

Could it be that when you upgraded the old settings were reset? Also recall http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/forum_thread.php?id=211#1109 and http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/forum_thread.php?id=191#1002

Aurel,

We have plenty of work for both and everything is up. Did you try again later?

I remember getting some stange errors like that a long time ago. I couldn't figure out why it was happening, but they went away after I rebooted my system. How long has it been since you restarted your computer?

So far, so good. w00t!!

Good to hear!

I don't see the undef in the stderr and there is really no reason we should get an undef so I'm going to assume it was in the client app.

Indeed unusual. Can you send the details of the system you are running on and perhaps stderr.txt?
7) Message boards : Number crunching : Cannot get new tasks on one of my AMD Rigs 4P (Message 1110)

Computer ID: 19754
I have reset the project a number of times.
I can get tasks on my other AMD 2P rig ID: 19668
Any tricks to get this fixed?
Thanks, Bill

Could it be on the wrong settings for home/work/school as in this thread http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/forum_thread.php?id=191#1002
8) Message boards : Number crunching : AMD vs Intel (Message 1098)
Posted 21 Aug 2014 by Profile Greg Tucker
Post:
It is just an affect of the BOINC credit formula that is based on benchmark tests run periodically. There is no logic in the scheduler, app or anywhere else that is looking if the WU will run on Intel or AMD and changing the WU size or adjusting credit. Other users have claimed that AMD is faster. It may just depend on the models you are comparing.
9) Message boards : Number crunching : WUs taking much less time than estimated (Message 1075)

Post:
Yes it is difficult to estimate how long each work unit will take until it is done. We can get an idea of its progress but it is an estimate.

We don't have an individual tally of the cases you have found but global results are posted such as http://hobbes.la.asu.edu/numberfields-old/driver/Decics52.html.

Come join Eric and me for a panel discussion on supercomputing at SpaceVision 2013 http://spacevision.seds.org/ on Friday Nov. 8th. We are looking forward to meeting with folks from SETI@home, MilkyWay@home and Asteroids@home to discuss distributed computing. This is your opportunity to meet with representatives of Number Fields@home and other Boinc projects.
15) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC manager cannot connect to core client (Message 907)
Posted 4 Sep 2013 by Profile Greg Tucker
Post:
Joshua,

Sorry I didn't see this before.

I had a similar issue in Linux and I think it was a problem with the port the manager uses to communicate with the core client. You may have to reboot. It could be windows thinks the old manager is running or virus scan has a problem with the port. I found other similar complaints in other projects.

Hi Kal,

Sorry we missed your question before. The progress is an estimate but it doesn't usually vary that much. How long did the workunit run? Is it still running?
