Greetings to all progressive humanity. :) Did you even have a full system backup of the servers or anything?Answer: No. ==== What happened to the live/production database? Since the first instance couldn't be restored (from the SQLDB backup), I installed a second instance of SQL Server. Naturally, the second instance of the database is empty. ~500,000 completed and validated tasks were lost. ==== What happened in the first place? In the first place - a database structure crash + a RAMDisk crash (32 GB). During Windows Server 2019 installation. 2016->2019 Why do you need RamDisk? To avoid wearing out your SSD. ==== Hello everyone, have a nice day! :) |

Sorry, but you shouldn't be running a project and not have backups to protect the work volunteers have done. This is just insane and pretty shitty if we lost all our work and credits. |

@SerVal I have a database backup of the gerasim credits for teams, hosts and users. If you need this to restore users/teams credits let me know I can provide it for you. Well I see the site is back up but evidently with old database info. Hopefully @Serval will take you up on your backup. |

use Gerasim exec dbo.Validator -- every 15 min exec dbo.Assimilator -- every 15 min exec dbo.file_deleter -- every 15 min exec dbo.BitwiseValidator -- every 15 min exec dbo.GetProjectTotals -- every 1 hour I'm currently creating a to-do list. There's still a lot of work to do. This entire Tower of Babel needs to be put on the scheduler so that the project can resume calculations. But not now. Right now, I'm going on a three-day vacation... bluestangI think your suggestion will be useful too. :) |

No backup and you were running this on a RAM DISK? Talk about dropping the ball. You dropped kicked that thing into another field. Gerasim stats tracking is now disabled at Free-DC and BOINCGames.com. At least users can still retain some of their credits at Free-DC before another stats update erases MILLIONS and BILLIONS of points from their accounts and teams. Unbelievable. |

Might as well load the old stats at Free-DC/BG. From 250m to 5m :( |

No backup and you were running this on a RAM DISK? I know right? WTF! I lost over 200M and that's nothing compared to some others. Some people should not be managing projects if a simple backup is too much to expect from them. Hopefully you two can get together and salvage the credit back to before the crash. @SerVal please stop using a RAM DISK! |

It's going to require a lot of work on my part, but I think I managed to grab the first negative dip of the credits with a database dump a day after it happened. I'm hoping I can revert those negative credits back to everyone's stats that exported them. This will require some custom coding to extract the data and add it back. While this will get the free-dc credits back to where they were it doesn't solve anything really. Users who created their accounts after the current backup will not be on the project right now, if ever unless theh sign up again. This doesn't even include what kind of custom coding will need to be done to insert those current credits to users accounts while also not doubling what they had at the time of the backup being used. It's a lot of work. The project admin should have just retired the whole project when it crashed and started a new project aka "Gerasim 2" or something similar with a different directory/URL for the new project and just started over. Then at least everyone who had credits exported would be fine. People could just sign up as if it was a new project moving forward. ...or something. I don't know. |

Sheesh messy situation - I wonder if there is a way to restore the project with all of the affiliated users' accounts up to a date prior to the crash and then retire it? Start over with a new project like Gerasim Redux or something like that (and PROPER hardware/maintenance)? When this happened I could not login there so I created a new account with the same username and password when the site reappeared. Of course now I have 0 credit...I just want to be able to get my 706,718,163 credits permanently accredited to me - whether Gerasim comes back or not. At least it was just numbers research, not medical...I would be more upset by that! Stuff will happen and this is all volunteer so its not like the roof caved in but 706,718,163 is a lot to lose...I was ranked #3 or #6 depending on which site your use - the Gerasim ranking is not that big of a deal but my overall combined score is! Grab your floppy disks and restore us Gerasim! I have a working C=128 and 1571 drive I can donate I was running a BBS on in 1986! I still have the software and data all backed up so I know it will work!! m0laki - "Everything you always wanted in a beer...and less." m0laki - "Fully Krausened." |

By the sounds of it. Nothing will be able to be restored. Unless he didn't delete the original database that was having issues. If he still has that database, then it's possible it can be fixed to restore it. Based on the responses though it seems he just deleted the database that was corrupt/broken and started over. Which means, everything past the current state is gone forever. As for the combined standings on 3rd party stats sites such as Free-DC. I am going to try to restore those values myself on the site and give it a retired/status type name that wont get auto updated anymore. I grabbed the Gerasim data files when the negative values first appeared so all I should have to do is turn those negative values to positive, then add them back to the users accounts. Drop this back into the database and it should restore the credits for all users who exported their stats to Free-DC. This should fix everyone's milestones for Free-DC who had millions of credits removed without warning. I don't have the time to work on this at the moment. |

Even if the project will come back I probably won't run it again if my account with all the credits is really gone :( |

It looks like we have (partly) good news! The Gerasim@Home credits are back in BoincStats. |

Not on the Gerasim website though. |

Correct, that's why I wrote 'partly'. The site seems to respond again, as I have the login page. But I am still not able to login using my credentials. This could mean, that an very old backup has been loaded back from before I joined Gerasim, which is March 2023. Or it is started anew. It that case it would be better, as suggested before, to start the project with a new name, so we won't lose our credit. We will see what will happen. |

Correct, that's why I wrote 'partly'. That's not what happened. Willy at BOINCStats just updated the points from the negative values ( or some other similar way) to update everyones points back to where they were. The stats files on the gerasim web site are still from ~4 years ago backup that was restored. |

:) p.s. DBCC say 5% left. |

Добрый вечер. ребятки. Очередная попытка восстановления Герасима бесславно закончилась на пятой минуте. Комментировать пока нечего. :( ==== Good evening, guys. Gerasim's latest attempt to recover ended ingloriously in the fifth minute. Nothing more to comment on for now. :( |

@Serval Any updates or should we all just kiss our work and points goodbye? |
