Some of you may have noticed, the search over subfield 7 DS16x11 is coming to an end, and you are probably wondering where we go from here. We are going to start by making a quick detour to subfield 6 and start the search over DS11x12. The only reason for doing this is to keep the WUs consistent for the BOINC Pentathlon (timing stats for the 2 searches are very similar - WUs average about 2 hours on my CPU) After that we will go back to subfield 3 and finish that search once and for all. Then it's back to the final part of subfield 7, and then finally subfield 6. |

Apparently I had queued way more sf6 WUs than were needed by the pentathlon. The queue has finally been flushed and you should see WUs for sf3 starting to come out now. |

It is interesting, what is BOINC Penthathlon? It's an annual challenge: https://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pentathlon/ |

It is interesting, what is BOINC Penthathlon? ok, also as I remember it was left 5 000 000 tasks for DS16x271. But now we have 3 500 000. About 1 500 000 tasks lost ) |

Hello, On the batch plan page, we can read that there are 25 working days left for the subfield 3 research. Does this mean your cooperation with Gerasim will soon end ? Thank, Kali. |

Hello, No, Gerasim will still help with the final search for subfield 7. |

By the way Eric, do you plan to introduce a new badge for the next subfield? :-) |

By the way Eric, do you plan to introduce a new badge for the next subfield? :-) Maybe for subfield 6. Subfield 3 is almost done, so not worth the trouble on that subfield. |

Hello, Unless something changed, per news it should be finishing off SF 7 and then SF6. |

Hello, Welcome! Can you help us describe the subvariants of SF7 that need to be completed before we move on to SF6? |

Hello, 16x12 is the last search for sf7. Because this search is so large, it is further subdivided over the 25 cvecs for prime 5. The WU name contains a substring 16x12-X; the X is the cvec index. The current plan is to do cvec #1 and see how many new fields are found, which will dictate how many more cvecs to do before moving on to sf6. Once I have high confidence that all fields have been found, I'd rather move on to sf6 where many more fields are waiting to be discovered. Hope that explains it... |

It is interesting, do you mean that you know how many fields is hidden in "Search 7 DS12x16" |

It is interesting, do you mean that you know how many fields is hidden in "Search 7 DS12x16" Not exactly. But I can measure the rate at which new fields come in and at a certain point I can say with high probability that the search is complete. If you recall, I did this with subfield 3 - I predicted a while back that it was already complete and now we are finishing that search which will validate the prediction and allow us to say it is 100% complete. It's similar to how a news room will call the presidential election with only X% of the votes in; we know it's not 100% guaranteed but we have high confidence in it. |

It appears that SF7 is (mostly!) complete, since I've only been getting the 11x10 & 11x11 SF6 workunits these past few days. I assume once we have crunched 100% of SF6, that we might go back to fully finish off SF7 just for the sake of total certainty? |
