Was averaging 6000 credits per wu, now 60???? 100 times less? That's a drastic cut....

If it's based on cobblestones (amount of work done calculation wise) this is ok, if it's based on run-time you are encouraging people to use slow hardware.

Still, it's a hugely drastic cut that happened on April 7th about mid day.

I really can't see using my GPU for this anymore when I'm getting approx 200 credits for an hours worth of work. It's just not worth it. I haven't tried CPU yet to compare and I did read the threads about excessive credits for GPU and now CPU being 10 x faster... I'm just not sure I understand the 100 times cut in credit... that's huge.

Go and check the news on algorithm updates. GPU app is still in beta and credits given to GPU tasks aren't even finalized.

The big drop in GPU credits is due to implementing CreditNew.

Once the GPU app has been properly optimized, I would hope that CreditNew will start handing out better credits.

Yes someone else mentioned CreditNew.... I'm not familar with it.

Thank you for the replies. It was just such a severe drop. I ran some CPU wu's too, and yes, those are nice and quick now too. About 3x slower than the GPU. I did find running 2 GPU tasks uses the high end GPUs better. Was gettting only 85% usage with one task, now 100% with 2 simultaneously.

Sorry people supposedly abused the GPU credit scheme at one point.... :(

I found this BOINC discussion and info on what CreditNew is...

As I posted in the first reply to that thread,

The equivalent reference document hosted locally is http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/CreditNew. Because that's held as a Wiki, you can look back through the history, timeline, and (sole) authorship of how it evolved.
I suggest you include reading the original document, whenever discussing the follow-up implications.
