How To Make Wooden Flowers

Flowers are some of the most beautiful things around and their purposes are as diverse as anyone can imagine. When it comes to aesthetics, they are of premium quality and unrivaled category and it is, therefore, not surprising that they have never been outdone or relegated to the background by any trend. Of course, you might well be aware that not all decorative flowers are natural. Some are artificial and among these are those made with wood.

Here, we will teach you how you can make wooden flowers.

Get the right materials

Before you start to do anything, you need to gather all the materials you will need in the process. Without getting these materials, then it will be impossible for you to put the knowledge you will be gaining under this post to proper use.

These materials include the following;

  • A hand plane. E.g. a Stanley No.4
  • A pair of scissors
  • A hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • A piece of wood

Once you have gathered these needed tools and materials, the next thing is to start the process. In so doing, follow the following steps

Create shavings

The first thing to do is to create shavings and you do this by setting up your plane to make relatively thick shavings. Endeavor to keep the thickness as consistent as possible. This is because you require up to 20 or less usable pieces. You will have use of the remaining wood later as a base.

Cut out the petals

Lay your hands on a pair of scissors. Take the shavings and cut out the shape of petals from every shaving. However, rather than a pointy end, cut out a flat edge that will be used to glue later. Ensure that the grain and curl run through the petal's width and don't attempt to be too precise. Differences in size and being imperfect will make it look more real and natural. 15 to 20 petals should be enough for a flower.

Glue the Flower

The next thing in line is to take and roll one of the smaller wooden petals and that will be the flower's center. Furthermore, use a blob of not glue to stick the first piece to the base. After that, you should cover the base using tape to make it easier to separate the base and the flower later. Repeat the process with as many petals as you want, especially if it is a bid flower you are aiming for. As the flower gets bigger, so do the petal pieces while the angle should get even flatter.

Spray it

The final step is spraying the flower. You can use spray lacquer to protect and keep it stable. If this is not done, the petals might curl unevenly once there is a change in moisture. Besides, you can also spray it with any of the colors we have stated earlier to give it the flower a better natural look.

Voila! You have wooden flowers that you can use for a wide range of occasions. However, if you cannot make these flowers on your own, don’t hesitate to get in touch with professionals that make the best ones.
