1) Message boards : Number crunching : Upload problems? (Message 1770)

About half of my machines are reporting uploading issues. The log entries read like this:

"NumberFields@home | Temporarily failed upload of wu_sf3....: transient HTTP error

NumberFields@home | Backing off 00:03:06 on upload of wu_sf3_DS-11x271_Grp357044of614400_0_0

Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site

Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down."

Is it only me?

What causes this error? I have two tasks that self-aborted this way (after 36 hours of combined CPU time).

>>>Wow! Mine's at 50.079%, 793 hours at the moment.
>>>AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU.

Your BOINC benchmark numbers are quite a bit higher than I'd expect a 1055T and Windows to produce. Are you overclocking?

I've been running that one too. On an i7-2600. For 1354 hours now. It's currently at 50.565%.

Sigh.

Just checked my remote machines...found one WU has an estimated remaining time of 5.665 years. Running XP will probably be illegal by then...

I have 5 of these long-running q-squirts running on one of my machines with about 21 days of combined accumulated crunch time. My account page says two of them have already deadlined and been redistributed, but they're still running on this end. When they finally get done (in 844 days, according to BOINC), how will I know how long they took? Or will they be uploaded as normal completions?

I have two WUs (on two different machines) that were reportedly "Aborted by project". Just out of nosiness, what's up with that?

I've searched the BOINC documentation, but have found no indication of what "CPU time" and "Elapsed Time" actually mean. Or how they relate to the terms "CPU Time" and "Run Time" on your website. Can you explain? I could list my guesses but that seems pointless.

Also, I apologize if these inquiries should be in the "Questions & Answers" section of this forum, but this thread seems to be better supported.

Unrelated note: we should be hitting 3 million Numbers@Home credits sometime tonight...exciting.

Note that there should not be very many of the slow WUs, so if you are seeing this alot, it could be a sign that something else is amiss.

How about a huge gap between CPU time and Elapsed time (called CPU Time and Run Time on the web page)? Is that a cause for concern?

So...if there's a huge split between a task's CPU Time and its CPU Time at Last Checkpoint (say, several hours), is that an indication that all is not well and an abortion is in order?

That seems to be a common thread of the tasks that get to a point where they're stuck for days.

I have a long-running WU (wu12E10_SF73-0_Idx3_Grp58252of116272) that reports "Memory Leak Detected!!!". It's been running for 64 hours, BOINC reports 190 to go (and rising). It's not likely to meet it's June 3rd deadline.

Abort?
