I remember getting some stange errors like that a long time ago. I couldn't figure out why it was happening, but they went away after I rebooted my system. How long has it been since you restarted your computer?

So far, so good. w00t!!

Good to hear!

And now bad...

I had some WUs that progressed nicely all the way to 80%+ and then they all crapped out at the same time. The stderr is below. I had left these WUs crunching all alone until I suspended all tasks to travel home. I restarted them and that seemed OK, but as I say, all 8 WUs crapped out at about the same time.

Just now, so I'll try again.

Thanks

So, having got those errors on Get Decics, I switched to Bounded tasks.

These run to completion but the CPU % is sometimes in single figures, often around the 50% mark and almost never above 90% (according to me sitting there watching Activity Monitor on and off all day, mostly off).

its all a little odd.

So you are only seeing this on your Mac?

Could it be related to the preferences that say "use at most x% of cpu time" or "suspend work when CPU usage is above x%"? And there may be other configuarbles that I am forgetting about.

I have 2 MacBooks - I am seeing it on one but not the other.

CPU time and usage are both set to 100%

I have rebooted and it still only runs around 50%.

Indeed unusual. Can you send the details of the system you are running on and perhaps stderr.txt?

Machine:

stderr.txt for one wu:

Ran some Decics but after an hour or so, got a Signal 4.

According to the interwebz this is an illegal instruction and I should inform you about it. But here's the weird thing - the Get Decics app is more than 2 years old. So surely someone would have seen this before. Unless this is another one of those Mavericks problems?

10) Message boards : Number crunching : Super long estimated times (Message 777)

Post:
Hey Jack,

Thanks! These are in Decics.

I received 150 WUs and noticed the behavior right after that so I've not have the chance to see how the queue is working or not.

With much higher estimation times, I'd suggest that my host - based on how other projects seem to work, particularly Primegrid - will be less likely to maintain a queue (assuming I got my understanding all straight). If the client holds a full buffer, based on inflated estimated times, then there will be fewer WUs in that buffer and a much bigger hole in the buffer will need to be created before another WU is downloaded. Right?

Also, I checked all my WUs and I see now that some have smaller estimates than I would expect (like seconds instead of hours).

Confused? You will be, after the next installment....

Last day or so my active tasks have seen their estimated times inflate to hundreds of hours.

I'm used to seeing big leaps in progress % but now tasks that were previously estimated to take 11 hours (and did, more or less) are now being estimated to take 138 hours.

No biggie, tasks complete as usual, credit is as usual. Just thought I'd mention it in case it's an indicator of something else breaking.

Eric,

Any news on the GPU front? I would dearly love to have my GPU crunch away on this project.
