21) Message boards : Number crunching : Runnitme discrepancy (Message 412)

Post:
Nearly all work units that run on my machines and a number of others that I have checked show that the CPU time and the RUN time are nearly the same or very close.

However I have found that the two computers listed as currently number 1 and number 3 don't appear to obey this.

Both have massive benchmarks way beyond what you would think they could possibly be.

This Host is currently number one, it is a Core i5 with 4 cores and is out producing the number 2 computer with 48 cores.

It has huge RUN times but more normal CPU times and is able to output a large number per day which would be impossible with the quoted RUN Times.

This Host is currently number 3, a QEMU 4 core CPU again with much larger RUN Times compared to CPU times but kept down to more reasonable levels compared to the Number 1 machine.

I believe they should be looked at, particularly Host 1461.

I am curious how the run times are so large but the cpu times are so low.

G'Day Eric

I have another one for you Result 222012
Over 44,000 seconds then "Maximum Elapsed Time Exceeded".

My Duration Correction Factor for Host 415 is 55 (I reset it from over 70 to 0 just 2 days ago).
My Duration Correction Factor for Host 416 is 60 (I have not reset this one).

Thanks

Yes Eric I did a detach and re-attach on the first computer I reported having trouble with, it hasn't stopped the errors just reduced them.

Now the problem has gone across to my other computer as well.

Host 415 (the one I first reported) has had another one see WU 159119 ran for 13,292 seconds

First one on Host 416 see WU 155878 ran for 31,308 seconds.
This WU has also failed on another computer with the same error message.

Yep, I have the same problem, but like you, with only one of my machines. They are all xp64 and win7 64. But only this one has the problem. Bizarre.

Whoa there zombie67 [MM], mine is not as bad at yours, ALL of yours are failing with this error.
Maybe a bad batch and you got most of them?

Thanks Eric I will try that.
It is only affecting one computer the other has not had that trouble or not that WU type.
Got another 3 as well

Unfortunately I have not gotten any work units that run for 36 minutes and pay me 50 points, which is a pity.

What I am showing is the fact that the credit is all over the place and on average for me it is very low.
Some run time and credit awarded examples:-

Runtime(sec) Credit Cr/h
54,818.78 208.09 13.67
50,413.69 174.31 12.45
50,402.27 296.11 21.15
47,959.63 132.41 9.94
18,036.39 62.99 12.57
13,113.98 45.41 12.47
11,804.94 26.74 8.15
10,181.86 19.70 6.97
3,661.20 20.80 20.45
1,665.88 5.12 11.06

As you can see credit just seems random.

Redoing benchmarks would make very little difference, the machines are mainly Boinc crunching units and do very little else.

Benchmarks have been consistently low for Linux since I first started Boinc many years ago, and nothing much has changed (unless I upgrade to 64 Bit where the benchmarks seem a lot better).

Since my last post (6 days) my score has only moved from 4,500 to 4,800, so as I said I am crawling to the 5,000 point mark.

Conan

(Edit :-- Just past the 5,000 point mark due to a large WU)

(Just checking work units and I found a new Low 4.5 cr/h for this WU after over 14 hours of processing for 66.98 points)

Well I can't work out why my faster computer (by only 200 MHz, an AMD Phenom II 1100T @ 3.3 GHz, my other is AMD Phenom II 955 @ 3.2 GHz), is getting consistently much lower results than my slower machine.

My slower machine gets from 12 up to high 20's with an average around 15 cr/h.
The 1100T is getting from 6 to 24 with an average around 12 cr/h.

These are some results from the faster computer (Host 415) over the last few days:--

You can see the differences, amounts awarded for the same or similar run times are wildly different with no consistency.

I am going to struggle to 5,000 points then call it a day as 6 credits an hour is not worth the effort, with 12 and 15 extremely poor.
It has taken me 2 weeks to get 4,500 points.

Don't know if the bias people have seen towards Linux has been compared like for like (64 bit Linux against 64 bit Windows), as I don't have any 64 bit computers (yet).
However my 32 bit Windows are only giving 12 to 15 cr/h with little variance between work units.
My faster computer is getting less than my slightly slower computer which seems a bit backward to me.
A recently completed 17 hour WU only returned 12.6 cr/h, that is not very good.

Have to go away this week so will leave this project running and will make a decision about the poor credit when I return.

If this project is like Optima@home then I will have to upgrade to 64 bit just to get decent credit (Optima only gives 14 cr/h on 32 bit but 25 plus on 64 bit).
