Are you able to fully explain the math?

Maybe it's language-related that it is hard to understand for me. If you have a german article about it or "real hard math" to run and see what it is doing, it could be easier.

If anybody could code these things without using the PARI library, I don't understand why anybody failed creating a GPU app. I aspect modern compilers come very close to the speed of a pure-assembler program, but some years ago this was different.

The gold standard for raw speed back in the 80's and I think in the 90's too is assembler, designed and optimized for the platform it should run on. A couple of years ago I wrote a 3x+1 application using x86 assembler, the complete win32 executable was only around 4kbytes in size and awful fast, especially on older machines.

Unfortunately I don't know anything on the "subfield math" used here either. But if it needs a big and mysterious mathematical library (pari), it seems to be complicated.

Is this needed to handle very big integers only or which mathematical functions or operations are necessary?

Are there any explanations on the internet where a very small field is displayed, so that this field and the mathematics behind it can be fully understood?

Killed another fat WU.

Credit cap?

This seems to become a very frequent problem with the last Qsqrt421 tasks and to not pollute the other threads, I think it is worth an own thread.

WU #15560765
WU #15364636
WU #15561917
WU #15365870

Usually the problematic workunits are easily found when long running tasks with different running times scored the same amount of credits.

All of my long running WUs are done so far but maybe I've got another few of them, which are already marked as _n with n>0 at the end.

Did this WU bumped the credit cap once again?

How many of the Qsqrt421 tasks are left and did we found something?

If new ones are generated, will there be a batch status for them?

Only one task on a Phenom 2 X4? Only 90 hours of running time so far?

You will get credit even if somebody manages to complete the WU before you do, but after the grace period (which is the time the Server accepts late results in) you'll have to call the admin. If you finish the WU first, it's validated as if the deadline has never been missed.

Maybe you should give the WU some more running time at-a-time.

Beside the primegrid race I have two of these WUs left. One of them "stuck" at 100% and another other holding at 57% for several days. I will continue both of them, the program runs quite stable (excluding the PARI Crashes) and I've done many of these WUs in the past. All of them have been granted credit.

What's about WU #15040289? Are you still on it or is it up to me?

I'm participating in the Primegrid race the next days. I'll be back!

I think you should change the project. What you've done and announced to do is only a great waste of computing time and electric energy. Why did I answer you?

Sorry, but this much ignorance after your whining because nobody answered after 10 seconds makes me angry. Get lost!

Ouch ... assuming no answer after less than 5 hours... with two postings only.

Do you think everybody here is only waiting for the unbelieveable asset to help YOU ... I mean because it's YOU?! Day and night? Around the world?! You should think about this!

Let the WU run, I've seen this before for days on multiple machines. That's quite normal (good looking or not) and the WU will finish.

I got the first one (#15161091) of my "fat" WUs down.
Unfortunately, it found nothing and might have blown the credit cap once again.

# The search is complete. Stats:
# Inspected 1511495782 polynomials.
# Num Polys passing PolDisc test = 0 (0%).
# Num Polys passing irreducibility test = 0 (0%).
# Num Polys passing field disc test = 0 (0%).
# Elapsed Time = 1158462 (sec)

The second fat WU is still going at 57% and 322 hours of running time.

I have to make the same announcement due to the following two WUs:

http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/workunit.php?wuid=15161036
http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/workunit.php?wuid=15161091

Both WUs are still running, 57% and 71% done after ~272 hours.

I'm also monitoring three of these WUs at this time, which are running for something around a week now (42/57% done). Deadlines have been extended automatically by the server. If this can be done more than one time it shouldn't require manual interventions to finish the WUs.

Originally we thought it was going to be a quick search

How much of the work is done and how long might the rest of the work will be?

That's too bad. I assume that I can abort this monster WU too? Do you have another fat WU to get rid of and nobody else with a big head start?

BTW.:
Is there a batch status for the DS3x8 WUs including the K2 tasks? It seems that they're not belonging to the DS11x271 batch listed on the status page.

Yes, HT is enabled on all of my machines (if available). As far as I remember Primegrid is the only project so far, which does not benefit from HT. On other projects it's always much or less better to use HT.

I got an i5 running which is mostly an i7 without HT and lower clock frequency. This machine is running at stock speed, maybe you can compare with that.
