Future of the Project
(Message 3430)
Posted 28 Nov 2022 by Vitaly Post: I am an alumnus of ASU. I think maybe we can try to reach out to the university foundation to see if they can setup a donation page for this project. Another option would be cloud computing. Some alternative cloud providers like Linode may have a cheaper price than AWS or Azure. I (will be come soon) am a software engineer, and I am familiar with cloud computing technologies. Can you list the hardware/network requirements of this project so we can start calculating how much would be required to maintain it? It is interesting what is the bandwidth should internet have in order this project works properly? Is it enough 100 MB/s (I have such internet at my home). Or it needs 1 GB/s or greater? |

Future of the Project
(Message 3318)
Posted 11 Aug 2022 by Vitaly Post: In worst case is it possible to organize the server at home. I think it should not be very powerful: i7/32GB/10TB. I think our communitee can help with all expenses (hardware, electricity, new domain etc) if you organize donations. Similar to Primegrid: https://www.primegrid.com/donations.php |

Subfield 5 almost complete
(Message 2468)
Posted 18 Jun 2019 by Vitaly Post: Almost all SoB projects use two different computers to calculate a WU (For example, Primegrid, yoyo etc). Why do they do this? Because it looks like wasting of time. Recently I found out that because of QUANTUM EFFECTS tipical user computer may commit an error even if the source code is absolutely correct and user does not attempt to cheat. The longer task the more probability to commit an error by a computer. For example, a particle with high energy from the Sun or deep space may hit a CPU core while it is calculating a task. For example, I also take part in SoB project: https://www.primegrid.com/stats_sob_llr.php Their tasks are quite long (up to 24 days). My computer is working continuously and some of my SoB tasks are calculated incorrectly because of unknown reason. What do you think about this? |
