In the past I participated in this project, but I shut down my BOINC processing after a while due to technical glitches that reduced my confidence in the software. I recently decided to restart my contribution to the NuberFields project, but right away I've encountered a technical glitch...

After joining the project successful, my BOINC client downloaded a collection of WUs for the NumberFields project. However, no processing has been done on any of them. It is as if they are not even being started. I am active in two projects (the other is Einstein@Home) and the other project behaves normally... WUs were downloaded and executed. My system has been working 100% of the time on Einstein, and I've been accumulating fresh credits on that project. It has done no work at all on NumberFields despite there being a large number of WUs available. This has been the situation for a few days now. Note that the BOINC client shows resource sharing between the projects at 50% each.

I could try rebooting my system, but I feel like that shouldn't be necessary. Furthermore, rebooting my system is a bit of an ordeal so I try to avoid doing it. Is this some sort of bug in the NumberFields executable? In BOINC itself? It's this sort of thing that caused me to abandon BOINC before.

Thanks

I apologize, but I should have mentioned that I'm using Windows 10 (1809) and BOINC 7.14.2.

Things look good from the server side, meaning you have tasks "in progress". So this seems like a client problem.

I have had annoying things in my own client where it wont run the tasks that I expect it to, or that I want it to (I have a test project that I run simultaneously with NumberFields). What works for me is using the client functions for suspending tasks or suspending an entire project.

It sounds like your client is running tasks that it feels are higher priority (maybe you have Einstein tasks that are due within a day, and NumberFields tasks aren't due for several days?) A test you could do is to suspend Einstein temporarily to see if the client will even start the NumberFields tasks. That will at least narrow down the problem.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The Einstein tasks are actually due later (about a week later). However, I noticed this afternoon that it has started work on NumberFields tasks. I'm not sure how the client makes decisions about what to run... it all seems rather mysterious to me. Anyway, it appears it is working as expected for the moment. I'll try your suggestion about suspending and restarting the project if it appears to happen again.

Thanks!
