Well, I just completed <30 tasks in 1 hour. :O

Who many DS3x8_CV1_S1000 are left?

I am doing "small" batches for pinpoint searches in regions where I suspect the elusive field may be hiding. There are not many left for the current batch, but I will periodically be making new batches.

I'm running "Get Decic Fields 2.11" wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1S1000_N2_19_N1_-4294to-1834_1

The elapsed time is 1d 20:30.55 with a remaining time of 529d 12:55:04 with .349% progress.

Is it OK to kill this?

Please don't feel you have to. I had

wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_49_N1_-7142to-4045_0 for several days last week, but it finished fine and within the original deadline.

There does seem to be a class of workunit which spends a lot of time on the first few %age steps at the start of computation, and a similar slow phase at the end, but which runs through the middle section very quickly.

Yes, it looks like the same old problem with WU timing is still haunting me. But I believe it should be better now than in the past. The worst I have personally seen was about 3 days; but that was on a relatively fast computer...

I estimate there are about 2 dozen WUs which will have excessively long run times, possibly as long as 2 weeks. I am cancelling these as I find them.

Other than the long run time, there is nothing wrong with these WUs, so you may allow them to run to completion if you like. If you end up returning one of them after it's been cancelled, let me know so I can get you credit (because the server does not grant credit for cancelled WUs).

I reckon I've got four of those:

wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_21_N1_-6868to-4346 (the original _0 dated 14 June, still running on a slower machine)
wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_41_N1_-7063to-4131
wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_10_N1_-4391to-1809 (I'll abort that one, someone else has completed it)
wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_28_N1_-4197to-1862

wu_Qsqrt421_DS1x8_CV1_S1000_N2_49_N1_-3971to-1938 had already slipped through - not as slow as the others - before I saw your post.

The smaller the value of N2, the longer the run time. The bad WUs are those with XXXXtoYYYY in the name, of which there are 3 for each value of N2. I am targeting those WUs with N2<30 for cancellation, for N2 above that the WU will still be slower than desired, but manageable.

OK - I granted you credit for those.

Same goes for anyone else out there - just let me know(forums or pm) if you have problems receiving credit and I will do it manually.

So not to really revive a really old thread... I've notice almost all my last group of task are all pushing longer than a day runtime.. 12 hours in and 12 hours remaining.. Looks to be all 60 task I am running. I haven't seen this before; started this morning.

Is this normal?

If its the sf3_DS-12x271 WUs then they will take a little longer, but nothing like the old Qsqrt cases. See this thread for more information:
https://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/forum_thread.php?id=316&postid=1851#1851

To summarize:
"WUs with a name like sf3_DS-12x271 average about 12 hours on my 3.6 GHz core i7.
The other WUs are more reasonable, averaging between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on the batch.
"
