Ok. I had bumped the cap from 3 to 6 days, which I guess was insufficient. I bumped it up some more.

Out of curiosity, do you run hyper-threaded? I ask because the worst I have seen on my 3.6 GHz Core i7 has been a little more than 3 days, but I run single threaded. If I were to run hyper-threaded, then that would double (approx) my time and make our times more comparable.

Yes, HT is enabled on all of my machines (if available). As far as I remember Primegrid is the only project so far, which does not benefit from HT. On other projects it's always much or less better to use HT.

I got an i5 running which is mostly an i7 without HT and lower clock frequency. This machine is running at stock speed, maybe you can compare with that.

So now I'm down to one - waiting to see which one of us on WU 12420121 finishes first.

It looks like someone beat you to it. Go ahead and abort it when you get a chance; I gave you the canonical credit for the effort.

Thanks - a good thing really. That was on a slower machine, and I've got several of the slow k2 jobs queued up behind it. Some may even get tossed back for 'not started before deadline'.

That's too bad. I assume that I can abort this monster WU too? Do you have another fat WU to get rid of and nobody else with a big head start?

BTW.:
Is there a batch status for the DS3x8 WUs including the K2 tasks? It seems that they're not belonging to the DS11x271 batch listed on the status page.

Yes you can abort that one. I sent you an email a few days ago letting you know, but I guess you didn't get it. There are only 3 more of these "fat" WUs and they are all spoken for.

Regarding the batch status table for the Qsqrt421 cases, that is something on my list to do. Originally we thought it was going to be a quick search, so we didn't make a table for it.

Sorry, the email adress used on the BOINC account is the first I've ever had and it's almost out of service due to spam poisoning.

Originally we thought it was going to be a quick search

How much of the work is done and how long might the rest of the work will be?

We have only searched a small portion of the entire search space. We are hoping to be done within the next several months, but it's hard to say.

If you hadn't seen it, this post describes the search in more detail:

Eric,
One of those two long Qsqrt421_DS3x8 WUs we emailed about last weekend has finished (15161027, after ~358,000 cpu sec on my i7) but the other one may need your help for a 1- or 2-day extension, please. It is 15161313 (wu_Qsqrt421_DS3x8_CV1_S815_N2_-194151_N1_806084_0), due 5 a.m. Saturday UTC. It has over 7 days running now which I hope not to lose. It has been stuck showing 5/7ths done (71.428%) for a couple of days so it's probably about ready to roll another 1/7, It still might finish on time Friday night, but I will not be able to monitor it (will be traveling). If you can keep it alive 'til it's done, I'll appreciate it.
Thanks/ Traills

I'm also monitoring three of these WUs at this time, which are running for something around a week now (42/57% done). Deadlines have been extended automatically by the server. If this can be done more than one time it shouldn't require manual interventions to finish the WUs.

I have one of these that has now gone past it's report date and has clocked up over 90 hours.
See Task 16720784
It is still running on host 416.
I hope I will still get credit as it has been sent out to another computer as well now, who may get it back before me.

Only one task on a Phenom 2 X4? Only 90 hours of running time so far?

You will get credit even if somebody manages to complete the WU before you do, but after the grace period (which is the time the Server accepts late results in) you'll have to call the admin. If you finish the WU first, it's validated as if the deadline has never been missed.

Maybe you should give the WU some more running time at-a-time.

Thanks Eric, I will keep it running.

Due to my older BOINC client (which I might update one day), the work units don't display percentage done, so I have no idea how far along this work unit is.

@ Dj Ninja

It is only running one instance of this project as it is also running more than 8 other projects at the same time, it has to share itself around. Compared to a normal run time of less than 30 hours, this work unit is a very long runner.

All of my long running WUs are done so far but maybe I've got another few of them, which are already marked as _n with n>0 at the end.

Did this WU bumped the credit cap once again?

How many of the Qsqrt421 tasks are left and did we found something?

If new ones are generated, will there be a batch status for them?

Yes, a problem with the cap again. I took care of it.

I didn't think there were many of the Qsqrt421 cases left; but a database search shows about 600 of them still out there.

So far the Qsqrt421 tasks have not turned up the hypothesized field. I would have hoped it would have been found by now, so I am putting the rest of those tasks on hold until we can reassess the situation. If we do more cases then I will be sure to add a batch status table.

yep, took care of that. There's only about 20 of these left now.
