Seven hours of crunching time down the drain... :'(

Task 2367768 ended with a compute error. Following is included in the stderr output:

*** the PARI stack overflows !
current stack size: 150000000 (143.051 Mbytes)
[hint] you can increase GP stack with allocatemem()

*** Error in the PARI system. End of program.

Anything to worry about?

Sorry about that. Nothing to worry about. This is a flaw in the pari number factoring algorithm, and happens when one factor in the number field discriminant is extremely large. It's a relatively rare event, but when it happens, it requires me to run the WU separately using a different factoring algorithm (one that takes about twice as long, otherwise I would use it as the default algorithm).

I haven't seen this problem in a long time, but this latest batch of WUs has a very large bound. So I will need to start monitoring the results more closely.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, Eric. I don't mind a little "wasted crunching" if things like this are relatively uncommon. Crunching on... :-)
