it allways happens if i end up on http://stat.la.asu.edu/NumberFields/

for whatever reason.

the browser has a cookie for numberfields.asu.edu - so not usable on the other URL.

Frank was right. I verified on both firefox and IE. Note that I did have to close down and restart the browser to get it to work on IE. I changed my bookmarks to the numberfields.asu.edu address and now the problem has gone away.

Try that Conan and let me know if you are still having problems.

G'Day to all,

Yes Frank was right, the "stat.la.asu.edu/NumberFields/" link is the problem and still does not work correctly.

Normally I get into this project by going through the Stat sites "FreeDC" or "All Projects", and clicking on their links to this project.

I checked both of these Stat Sites Link Addresses and found that they both point to "stat.la.asu.edu" and so I keep getting the problem.

I logged into this project via my browser and the link "numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/" and had no trouble whatsoever, all working OK and as it should be.

So yes I have no more problems with the issue I was having.

However I wont be using the links from the above mentioned Stat Sites to get to this project.
I will use a direct link from my browser.

Thanks again Erik for all your work in this issue.
A big thanks to you FrankHagen for locating the problem.

Conan

then just get rid of stat.la.asu.edu/NumberFields.

probably will block those still using the old url, but i'm sure they'll notice it then. ;)

Unfortunately, "stat" is the name of the host and the rest of the url wont be changing for obvious reasons. As you probably know, changing the name of a host is not a trivial problem, not to mention the work that would be required of the campus IT people. So the stat.la.asu.edu address will have to stay.

The real problem here is that we created the alias numberfields.asu.edu because it sounded better; and this was done after the project had been up for about 2 weeks. I'm not sure how FreeDC ended up with the old address, because I didn't think we were listed there until after the name change.

I will contact FreeDC (and "All Projects") to see if they can change the url. I think that might be the best option at this point. If you find any other stat sites with the old url, let me know.

aaah! there we go:

PING numberfields.asu.edu

Ping stat.la.asu.edu [129.219.44.120] mit 32 Bytes Daten:

Antwort von 129.219.44.120: Bytes=32 Zeit=208ms TTL=40
Antwort von 129.219.44.120: Bytes=32 Zeit=205ms TTL=40
Antwort von 129.219.44.120: Bytes=32 Zeit=207ms TTL=40
Antwort von 129.219.44.120: Bytes=32 Zeit=206ms TTL=40

ip-resolution of course works, but a redirected URL most likely is not a very bright idea in the long term..
