Nice, it seems to work here but i got WAY to many new tasks. I have got my new CPU and mainboard yesterday and sadly have to use a normal CPU cooler instead of water; so i cant run on full power 24/7 til i got a new kit. (they forgot to add the screws, they werent in the package).

It also didnt created an new ID for this PC somehow?

Update about this, after 10 minutes of working several cores reached Temperaturs of 100C which forces me to stop running BOINC. I was only using 25% of cores. I should get the kit in a week, so i wont be able to finish within deadline.

With the current progress made on DS16x270 (sf3) we might be able to complete the remaining majority of the work in just 2,5 weeks.
What will be worked on after that, finishing sf3 or working on DS13x11 in sf7?

Subfield 7

Number of total tasks: 15,768,766
Number of completed tasks: 12,435,432 (3,333,334 left)
78.86% done

All subfields together

Number of total tasks: 111,372,289
Number of completed tasks: 78,660,041 (32,712,248 left)
70.63% done.

Please not that some searches on SF6 and SF7 havent been started yet. Also you can see that the amount of completed tasks has nearly doubled since my last update. Very impressive.

After an longer break i am kind of back and jeez a lot did change!
Seeing that those 16x270 tasks are estimated to run 1-2 hours only is quite a surprise, too.
Are there still a few long runners out there that took days to complete btw?

Fingers crossed i might get the new PC parts in a few days, ordered an i9-10980XE. Thats a beast and i would love to test it for some sf3 tasks.

An other question about runtimes. As DS increases, will the runtimes increase a lil bit aswell; or are they stable and "only" the # of WU´s increases?

Also. I am noticing the amount of decic fields found increases, can you already say how much fields we found so far in SF6?

Ok or wrong:

On my pc the Nvidia GPU tasks additionally need a full CPU core (Get Decic Fields v3.03 (opencl_nvidia) windows_x86_64).
The GTX 1080 Ti card has a power usage of only 25% and the gpu utilization is 50%.

So I run two tasks. The gpu is underutilized and the cpu load is too high.
https://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/result.php?resultid=50063132

GPU utilization will be fixed with optimization. This is dependent on individual card. My utilization is 97%, but that's because I optimized for my card, and those settings are now the default. When I find the time I will add an app_info.xml interface so that volunteers can easily tweak settings and report back the optimized values for their card.

I'm not sure why the cpu load is high. I've noticed that too on the cuda version. As a test, I removed the call to the GPU and the app finished within seconds. That means the vast majority of the time should be spent on the GPU. I'm guessing the CPU is "waiting" on the GPU to finish. The CPU buffers polynomials and then throws them at the GPU. I currently do this in blocks. I could increase the buffer to include every polynomial so there is only 1 call to the GPU. Then the CPU would not have to constantly wait on the GPU, but this would require close to 100GB of memory (worst case) which is not practical. But maybe there is a better way, I just haven't found it yet.

Could you increase the buffer to the following:

Read the user / computer specific max memory usage from there computing preferences and divide it but the max. running tasks (number of threads and graphics devices, if there supported / enabled) and set this value as max largest buffer?
This are just my two cents~

As you may have noticed, subfield 5 is nearing completion. In the next few hours the last of the work units will be sent out. Of course it will still take ~2weeks for the final results to trickle in before it's officially complete.

This is a huge milestone! This subfield was originally estimated to take over a year to complete. Due to the new optimized apps (including GPU apps), this was completed in just several months.

We will be moving on to subfield 4. But first we will make a short detour and finish off subfield 6 DS7. Don't let the ~2.5mil work units scare you. These were generated for the old apps, and would have taken about 2 hours a pop, but with the newer apps they should be about 10x faster. That means we should blow through about 350k work units per day. If this turns out to be too much of a strain on the server, then we will jump straight to subfield 4 (and run sf6 DS7 in parallel).

Thanks everyone for your contributions! We couldn't have done this without our volunteers.

Last 24h we finished 225K workunits; most of course from SF6. :)
I expect to have slight larger runtimes for SF4 and SF5, is that correct?

Runtime from a sf5 task: 1 hour and 3 minutes; which is ~3 times faster than a CPU task.
Runtime from a sf6 DS7x10: ~7 minutes, which i cant relate to a CPU task at this time.

No errors while running the task.
It seems to work fine, at least for me. :)

I know that i havent been much active here since i am working on my own stuff, but its good to hear that this project is moving forward!
Quick heads-up: SF6 will give us (at least) 58M tasks, so there will be work for quite a long time~
(an other heads up: total amount of all workunits from the Decic Search is now at 88,411,891; we are getting closer to 100M. No doubt we are going to get over 100M :D Fun fact, said number is prim. ^^)

But I´d like to ask when we will get the remaining Batches from SF3, like 13x270.
That could be loaded together with SF6 after SF5 is fully done, or?

As you may have notice I´m back to my personal prime search and factoring stuff. But, I will come back at some time. I need to be under Top 10 from my country; atm I´m at position 11 and needing a bit more than 2 millions points to reach TOP10.

Yeah, it looks like there may have been a problem with your system or the BOINC manager. The next computer that picked up that WU finished it successfully and the stderr shows check pointing working as expected.

Yes. Now I upgraded the manager, after I got the same problem on amicable numbers.
Now it should work, i´ll be back in a few days.
